Gareth Southgate Press conference
England football manager Gareth Southgate has made up excuses for England after a 2-1 defeat against Spain.
After this defeat he still wants to play the same strategy and stick to a simple plan rather than adapting to England’s game to the opposition.
“I think at the moment we have to stick with the plan, stick with what we’re doing and just get better at doing it,” said Southgate.
Even though England have a game plan, the team is still adapting and needs more time, he added.
“We’re under no illusions that Spain were the better team for long periods of that but they are brilliant at what they do and we are in the early stages of what we’re trying to do,” said Southgate.
Southgate tried to explain that England had tried their best, but because of Spain’s more technical football, the Spanish outshone his Three Lions. England struggled to match this, Southgate said.
“They have a system in Spain that has produced some of the best midfield players in the world. At the moment we have a different profile of player, we can’t play the way that they want to play,” he said.
Despite a successful World Cup this year, the defeat against Spain was a timely reminder that England are a long way from the finished product.
But Southgate insisted that the team stuck to their task.
“They pressed extremely well and it took us a while to workout where that press was coming from and find a solution to it. We did it a couple of times but at the moment we’re still finding our feet in playing out from those areas,” said Southgate.
Over view on experience
When writing up this conference and reflecting on what Gareth Southgate had said, it was challenging because we didn’t have the full conference and what was asked, but I enjoyed this challenge because we could take the story in any direction. This gave us some freedom and it meant the story could be told in many ways. It’s also a good way to practice what the most important part of the story way and making that the focus. If we knew the questions that was asked it would have made the challenge easier and we could have had a better understanding of what had been said and follow the conference a bit better. But this also good practice for the future because we could be doing a job I n the future where someone else collects our information and we have to turn it into a story.
This task also helps with using quotes and know when its the right time to used them and make sure they were used correctly, a few mistakes where made but, that can be simply fixed.
